Lesson [3]

2. National Regulatory Bodies

a. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA – United States):

In the United States, the FAA is the national regulatory authority responsible for civil aviation. Its roles include:

– Safety oversight: The FAA ensures the safety of U.S. airspace by regulating aircraft design and maintenance, pilot training, and air traffic control.

– Air traffic management: It manages and controls the national airspace, ensuring safe and efficient air traffic operations.

– Certification: The FAA certifies aircraft, airports, and aviation personnel to ensure they meet safety and performance standards.

b. European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA – European Union):

EASA sets aviation safety standards for EU member states and plays a similar role to the FAA but at the European level. Its roles include:

– Harmonization: EASA harmonizes aviation regulations across EU member states to create a unified safety framework.

– Certification and oversight: EASA oversees the certification and safety of aircraft, aviation products, and operators within the EU.

c. Civil Aviation Authority (CAA – Various Countries):

Most countries have their own civil aviation authorities responsible for regulating aviation within their borders. These agencies oversee safety, security, and compliance with international standards.
