Student: Roshaun Clarke
Course Unit: L4 THM230906 Event Planning Fundamentals
Learning Outcome 1: PASS
Your submission demonstrates a well-rounded understanding of event planning applied consistently
to Kingston Manor. All four criteria are met across the questions.
AC 1.1 — Q1 Event Planning Concepts. You cover all four elements with Kingston Manor
context: objectives (outdoor event to boost reputation), stakeholders (client, corporate planner,
attendees, management), lifecycle stages (research, design, coordination, execution), and
evaluation (feedback and ROI for future improvement). PASS
AC 1.2 — Q2 Planning Decisions. You work through the full lifecycle with applied detai and
link each stage to how the Kingston Manor event is shaped. PASS
AC 1.3 — Q3 Analysis of Failure. You identify concept map failure and trace its consequences
through reputation loss, stakeholder investment loss, delays, poor budgeting, reduced attendee
interest, and no return on investment. PASS
AC 1.4 — Q4 Professional Reasoning. You build a strong case for evaluation covering guest
satisfaction tracking, financial performance (actual cost vs budget, profit margins, ROI), staff
efficiency and training needs, and future market development. PASS
Learning Outcome 2: REFERRED
AC 2.1 — Outline the event planning timeline and stages; identify key milestones and deadlines. This is the strongest part of your written plan: your eight-week countdown sets out clear phased milestones (Weeks 1 to 2 logistics and budget, Weeks 3 to 4 marketing and sponsorship, Week 5 operational detail, Weeks 6 to 7 confirmations, Week 8 rehearsal and walkthrough), each with a stated objective, and your event-day timeline runs from 3:00 pm setup to 11:30 pm close. The criterion is not met overall because it is also assessed through your ability to explain how the plan operates, and your presentation of the lifecycle and of how implementation would run was referred. The written sequence is sound; accounting for it under questioning is what is missing. (REFERRED)
AC 2.2 — Set SMART event goals and align them with the organisation's mission and vision. Your SMART objectives are present but thin: the five components are labelled, yet several restate the event rather than set a target, and only the 45 to 50 attendee figure is genuinely measurable. Your brand-alignment section lists relevant Kingston Manor characteristics. The criterion is referred because the defence of how your objectives shaped your planning decisions, and why the event suits Kingston Manor, was not passed. Objectives need to function and be defended as planning drivers. (REFERRED)
AC 2.3 — Develop strategies to measure and evaluate event success using KPIs. Your Evaluation section develops a measurable KPI set across attendance, lead generation, revenue, guest satisfaction, marketing exposure, and community engagement, supported by surveys, booking data, social-media analysis, a staff debrief, and a financial review, with each KPI linked back to an objective. You also defended how success would be evaluated adequately in the oral, so this criterion is met. (PASS)
Justification & Integration — Justify planning decisions; integrate the Kingston Manor context; demonstrate professional reasoning. Your implementation, service-delivery, risk, and closing sections are operationally detailed, and your stakeholder element was defended adequately. The criterion turns on justifying your planning decisions under questioning, and your Q&A defence was referred: describing what happens is not the same as defending why you chose it. This is the core of the requirement and the main reason the unit does not yet stand. There is also a factual slip to correct in any rework, since coal is listed among renewable resources. (REFERRED)
Overall Feedback
Your written paper shows genuine planning competence, particularly the phased eight-week timeline, the floor-plan layout, and the KPI-driven evaluation, which is a stronger structure than many in the cohort. The unit is Referred because LO2 is assessed as one whole across the written plan, the lifecycle presentation, and the Q&A defence, and your oral presentation and defence were not passed, including how your objectives shaped planning, how implementation would operate, and your justification of decisions under questioning. To clear LO2 you will need to re-sit the oral components and defend your planning choices, the objectives behind them, and how the plan operates in practice. The written work is largely there; standing behind it under questioning is what remains, and tightening the academic writing throughout, which currently carries frequent spelling and grammatical errors, would strengthen the resubmission.
Learning Outcome 3: REFERRED
AC 3.1 — Analyse and evaluate an event concept using critical thinking and problem-solving. You justify the reunion concept against Kingston Manor's residential layout, location, and capacity, and you set SMART objectives with four planning challenges and solutions. The reasoning is clear and applied. Met. (PASS)
AC 3.2 — Design and apply suitable event marketing strategies using digital channels. You select WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook with a stated rationale for each, target a nostalgia message at the alumni audience, and provide invitation, Instagram, and WhatsApp samples. Met. (PASS)
AC 3.3 — Develop a realistic event budget and financial plan. The budget is itemised with cost-control logic, but it does not reconcile: the stated objective is JMD 100,000 while the table totals JMD 135,000, the figures differ across documents, and the plan does not show the practicum-scale spend against the JMD 10,000 ceiling the brief asks for. Not met. (REFERRED)
AC 3.4 — Take part actively in practical planning and demonstrate competence in live execution. The practicum was not completed, so live execution is not demonstrated. Not met. (REFERRED)
Overall: the concept and marketing are strong on paper. The unit is referred because the practicum was not completed, which is a mandatory fail, the mandatory process records are missing (no team meeting dates, attendance, or agendas, and no client consultation record), and the budget does not reconcile internally or across documents.
