Course Unit Aim
The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ understanding of the legal and ethical environment in which businesses operate. Learners will examine the purpose of business law, the structure of legal and justice systems, key areas of business-related legislation, and the ethical responsibilities expected of modern organisations.
The unit is designed to help learners move beyond memorising legal concepts. They will learn how to interpret legal responsibilities, assess ethical risks, apply legal principles to practical business situations, and recommend improvements that strengthen compliance, governance, accountability, and stakeholder trust.
By the end of the unit, learners should be able to explain why laws and ethical standards matter in business, identify relevant legal duties, analyse the implications of legal non-compliance, and recommend practical actions that support lawful and responsible business practice.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand the principles, purpose, and ethical foundations of business law.
- Understand legal and justice systems within a business context.
- Understand key business-related laws and ethical obligations.
- Be able to assess legal and ethical implications and recommend improvements to business practice.
To achieve a ‘pass’ for this unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria.
